Signs of the Seasons

25 JULY 2005

A monsoonal shower dropped between 1/2 and 1 inch of rain on Sunday the 24th forming a pond near the old cabin.

Pale Swallowtail butterflies feed on the Cleveland sage. Big Red Skimmer dragonflies perch on trees near the pond.

Western Gray Squirrels bring nesting material to the oak tree behind the Old Cabin. Merriam Chipmunks inhabit the roof.

Scarlet Keckiella [Keckiella ternata] bloom now along the road. The leaves at the base begin to turn burgundy.

Indian Paintbrush adds more color to the landscape.

Above the Glacier area, Ponderosa Pine has new yellow-green leaves making it more easily distinguishable from its companion, Jeffrey Pine, at this time of year.
