Volunteering
Mt. Baldy Environmental Education is committed to offering a high-quality, affordable outdoor experience to our regional educators and their classes. Our invaluable volunteers make this possible. If you would like to help us put a smile on a student's face, grow native plants in our greenhouse, or help staff our visitor center please contact us today. Current opportunities include:
- Instructor Our volunteer instructors lead activities in the presence of the students' classroom teacher. Activities, drawn from our program list, generally last in the neighborhood of 30 minutes. If you would like to share in a 2nd grader's newfound discovery of the outdoors, or tell a story to a group of wide-eyed kindergartners, this "job" is for you. This need exists for mornings during the school year.
- Classroom Aide With groups often exceeding 60 students, we welcome additional volunteer staff to assist with program preparation, handing out and collecting materials, and additional classroom interaction. This need exists for morning sessions during the school year.
- Visitor Center Aide The Visitor Center is a primary source of information for people visiting the Mt. Baldy area. In this role you will provide information about trails and local destinations, write permits, answer forest-related questions, and sell merchandise from our store. This need exists for both half and full days, during the week and on weekends.
- Greenhouse Grower Would you like to exercise your "green thumb" by raising native chaparral plants from seed and cuttings in our greenhouse? No experience is necessary; just an interest in gardening. Hours are flexible.
- Handyman/Carpenter The Visitor Center and its surrounding grounds and interpretive exhibits sometimes require a little TLC. If you would derive a sense of satisfaction out of being part of a team that keeps a busy forest visitor center looking its best come on board.
Keep checking back to find new opportunities as we develop new programs!
